Marquette, MI – Lake-effect snow continues across the central and eastern Upper Peninsula today, with Winter Weather Advisories in effect for multiple counties as bands of snow and strong winds create hazardous travel conditions. The National Weather Service in Marquette says the advisory for Marquette County will remain in effect until 7 a.m. Friday, while a broader advisory for Alger, Luce and Schoolcraft counties continues until 7 p.m. Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, Marquette County can expect 1 to 2 inches of additional snow, with gusts up to 35 mph reducing visibility at times. The early-morning snow may make roads slick during the Friday commute, especially along stretches of US-41, M-28 and County Road 550.

Farther east, heavier lake-effect snow bands are expected to bring 2 to 6 inches to Alger, Luce, Southern Schoolcraft and Northern Schoolcraft counties. Communities including Munising, Grand Marais, Newberry, Manistique and Seney may experience rapidly changing conditions as snow intensity varies over short distances. Blowing snow may further reduce visibility in open areas.

Forecasters urge drivers to slow down and use caution as lake-effect snow can shift quickly, making some roadways hazardous while nearby areas remain relatively clear. Hazardous conditions may impact both the morning and evening commutes.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts throughout the day as lake-effect bands continue to evolve.
