Marquette, MI – The National Weather Service in Marquette reports that lake effect snow will persist across the northwest wind snow belts through Sunday night, bringing fresh accumulations and continued cold to much of the Upper Peninsula.

Forecasters say the heaviest snow will fall across the eastern U.P., where 3 to 6 inches of accumulation are possible through Sunday. Elsewhere, totals will be lighter—around 1 to 2 inches—as snow bands shift and weaken heading into Monday.

Temperatures will stay well below freezing, with daytime highs in the teens and lower 20s and wind chills dipping into the single digits at times. Conditions are expected to remain cloudy, with additional light snow showers possible Monday afternoon.

Drivers should watch for slick spots on untreated roads, especially in areas prone to heavier snow squalls. Visibility may briefly drop during periods of more intense lake effect snow along U.S. Highway 41 and M-28.

The NWS advises travelers to use caution and allow extra time for commutes through the weekend.
