MARQUETTE, Mich. – Morning light glimmers off the calm waters of Lake Superior this Tuesday, but the quiet start belies change in the air. Southeast winds carry a touch of warmth across the Upper Peninsula today — a short-lived break before colder, wetter weather sweeps in by the end of the week.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, today and Wednesday will feature mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid-50s. Southeast gusts may reach 15 mph near the lakeshore, where waves will build slightly along U.S. 41. Conditions remain calm through midweek, making it ideal for outdoor cleanup or Halloween decorating before the next cold push.
Clouds increase late Thursday as a developing system approaches from the Plains. Showers could begin early Friday, spreading across Alger, Baraga, and Marquette Counties through the afternoon. Temperatures will dip into the upper 40s, and cooler lake air may enhance rainfall along the shoreline. Those planning Halloween events should prepare for damp streets, slick leaves, and a brisk feel by early evening.
Friday night into Saturday, scattered showers continue, with highs falling into the lower 40s. Models hint at the first mixed flakes inland from Ishpeming and Negaunee, though accumulation isn’t expected. Winds will turn north and usher in that unmistakable November bite.
By Sunday, light rain lingers but gradual clearing may follow by Monday. After all, the Upper Peninsula’s quiet sunshine never lasts long this time of year — a chilly November is knocking.
