Marquette, Michigan – Slick roads and icy conditions are developing across Upper Michigan today as a wintry mix spreads in after a foggy start, creating hazardous travel conditions through tonight.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, snowfall totals up to 2 inches are expected across the Keweenaw Peninsula, while areas including Marquette County could see ice accumulations approaching 0.10 inches, especially in higher terrain. The combination of snow and freezing rain will make roads, bridges, and overpasses particularly dangerous.
Communities including Marquette, Houghton, Calumet, and Munising are expected to see the most significant impacts, with temperatures ranging from the low 30s to mid-40s. Travel along US-41 and M-28 could become slick as precipitation continues through the day and into tonight.
After a brief break Wednesday, a second system is expected to arrive late Wednesday night, bringing additional snow and ice through Friday morning. This could lead to prolonged travel disruptions and potential power issues where ice accumulates.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra time, and prepare for rapidly changing road conditions.
The unsettled pattern will continue through late week, with additional advisories likely as the next round of wintry weather approaches.
