Marquette, MI – A powerful winter storm is moving through Upper Michigan, bringing heavy snow, strong winds, and dangerous travel conditions through early Thursday morning. Snowfall totals of 5 to 11 inches are expected in Marquette and surrounding areas, with wind gusts reaching up to 40 mph.

According to the National Weather Service, the worst conditions will occur Wednesday night into Thursday morning, leading to whiteout conditions and potential power outages. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility, making travel hazardous, especially along US-41 and M-28. Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for possible disruptions.

By Thursday afternoon, snowfall will taper off, but gusty winds will continue, leading to patchy blowing snow and lingering hazardous road conditions. Temperatures will hover in the mid-30s during the day before dropping into the teens overnight.

Looking ahead, Friday brings a mix of clouds and sunshine with highs in the mid-40s. A chance of rain and snow showers returns Friday night into Saturday, followed by partly sunny skies for the weekend. Another round of snow is possible Sunday night into Monday.

Officials urge residents to stock up on essentials, keep flashlights and emergency supplies on hand, and check for local updates. Stay tuned for further weather alerts as conditions evolve.
