Marquette, MI – Michigan’s Upper Peninsula residents can expect rainy and foggy conditions through Thursday night, creating low visibility across major routes and communities. The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) Marquette office reports a quarter to half an inch of rain today in eastern areas, with dense fog likely affecting western regions this evening. Those driving along major roads, including M-28 and U.S. Highway 41, should proceed with caution as visibility may drop below one mile in certain areas.
According to the NWS, Thursday’s showers are likely to taper off by late afternoon, but a blanket of clouds will persist through the night. With temperatures dropping to lows around 29-38°F, patchy fog will develop across the western half of the peninsula, potentially making Friday morning’s commute hazardous. Drivers are encouraged to use low beams and reduce speed, especially in fog-prone zones.
Friday’s forecast shows improvement, with partly sunny skies expected throughout the region. Temperatures are set to reach highs of 50°F, providing a brief break from wet conditions. However, another round of light showers could return Saturday night, followed by mostly cloudy skies on Sunday. Daytime highs for the weekend will remain in the upper 40s to low 50s, while overnight lows hover around the high 30s.
Looking ahead, Monday brings a mix of sun and clouds, as temperatures remain seasonally mild. While no significant weather hazards are expected early next week, residents should monitor updates from the NWS for any changes in conditions.
