Marquette, MI – Drivers across Michigan’s western Upper Peninsula are facing hazardous travel conditions this morning as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Marquette has issued a Dense Fog Advisory until 9 a.m. EDT (8 a.m. CDT) Tuesday.

According to the NWS, visibility has dropped to a quarter mile or less across Gogebic, Ontonagon, Keweenaw, and Houghton counties. Cities impacted include Houghton, Hancock, Copper Harbor, Ontonagon, Ironwood, Kenton, and Sidnaw.

Forecasters warn that the dense fog could cause dangerous driving conditions, especially along rural highways and low-lying areas where visibility may drop quickly. Motorists are urged to slow down, use headlights, and leave extra following distance during the morning commute.

The fog is expected to lift by mid-morning as temperatures rise, improving visibility across the region. Until then, travelers should allow extra time and remain alert to sudden changes in road conditions.
