Marquette, MI – A severe wind chill advisory remains in effect for Michigan’s Upper Peninsula through Monday night. Wind chills as low as 35 below zero are expected in Iron and Gogebic counties.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the advisory began Saturday at 9 p.m. CST and will persist until 9 p.m. Monday. Ontonagon, Houghton, Baraga, and Marquette counties could also see wind chills between 25 to 30 below zero. Frostbite may occur on exposed skin within 10 to 30 minutes under these conditions.
Residents are urged to limit outdoor exposure, wear layers, and ensure proper coverage with hats and gloves. Prolonged outdoor activities could lead to hypothermia or frostbite, officials warn. Drivers should carry emergency supplies in case of vehicle issues.
The NWS emphasizes caution during this frigid stretch, advising residents to avoid unnecessary travel and monitor vulnerable individuals. This cold snap highlights the importance of winter preparedness in the region.
Temperatures are expected to improve slightly by midweek, though wind chill values will remain challenging through Monday night. Stay tuned for updates as conditions evolve.
