Marquette, MI – Residents and visitors planning to venture out on the Upper Great Lakes this Labor Day weekend should exercise caution. Hazardous weather conditions are forecasted, particularly on Lake Superior and the northern parts of Lake Michigan.
According to the US National Weather Service in Marquette, conditions will deteriorate as early as Thursday evening. Elevated winds and significant wave heights are expected to peak from Friday through Saturday, posing a danger to boaters and kayakers. The most hazardous conditions are forecasted for Lake Superior, west of the Keweenaw Peninsula, where elevated warnings will be in effect.
The forecast for the weekend indicates that after a dry start on Thursday, rain and storms will sweep through overnight, concluding by Friday morning. Despite a brief dry spell, another round of showers is expected late Saturday into Sunday morning, accompanied by temperatures ranging from the low 70s to near 80 degrees.
