Marquette, Michigan – Severe thunderstorms and heavy rain are set to hit Michigan’s Upper Great Lakes region starting Tuesday night, with the potential for flooding through Friday morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued warnings for the possibility of intense storms through Wednesday, especially as rain accumulates and localized flooding becomes a concern.
According to the NWS, multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms will move across the area from late Tuesday through early Friday. Rainfall amounts remain uncertain but could be heavy, with isolated flooding risks especially in western Upper Michigan. The strongest storms may produce intense downpours and frequent lightning, with conditions peaking on Tuesday night and Wednesday.
Communities in Marquette, Iron, and Dickinson counties, including highways US-41 and M-28, are expected to be heavily impacted. Motorists should expect slippery roads and possible flooding in low-lying areas. Emergency management advises residents to stay up to date on weather alerts and prepare for power outages or disruptions to travel.
Heavy rain is expected to continue into Wednesday, with more rounds of showers on Thursday and Friday. Keep an eye on additional advisories as the storm system moves through.
