Gaylord, MI – Freezing rain and accumulating ice are expected to impact upper and northern lower Michigan through at least 8 p.m. Sunday, creating hazardous travel conditions and potential infrastructure disruptions across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, freezing rain will intensify through late Saturday and into Sunday evening, with the greatest icing risks across interior northern lower Michigan and areas east toward Lake Huron. Ice totals may exceed 0.25 inches in counties including Otsego, Alpena, and Presque Isle, while regions along and south of M-72 could see slightly lower amounts.

Travel will be especially treacherous near the Mackinac Bridge and I-75/M-32 corridor, where falling ice and slick roads may create dangerous conditions. Repeated road treatment will be required due to persistent icing, and power outages are possible due to ice accumulation on trees and lines.

Motorists are advised to delay travel if possible and monitor road condition updates. Residents should prepare for power disruptions by charging devices and securing backup heat sources. The weather system may transition to snow late Sunday night into Monday, adding further complexity to cleanup efforts.
