Louisville, KY – The National Weather Service has issued multiple winter weather alerts across southern and southeastern Kentucky for Thursday night through Friday morning, warning of accumulating snow and slick road conditions by daybreak.
According to the NWS Louisville office, up to an inch of snow is expected over the Lake Cumberland region, with lighter accumulations possible farther north toward the Western and Bluegrass Parkways. Snow is expected to begin late Thursday and continue overnight, potentially creating slick travel early Friday morning.
Meanwhile, the NWS Jackson office has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for southeastern Kentucky, where 1 to 3 inches of snow are expected through 10 a.m. Friday. The heaviest snow is likely to fall in the higher terrain of Pike, Letcher, and Harlan counties.
Forecasters caution that even modest snowfall could lead to dangerous driving conditions, especially in shaded or elevated areas. Motorists are urged to slow down and allow extra travel time during the Friday morning commute.
Snow intensity is expected to taper off by mid-morning Friday, but temperatures will remain cold enough for icy patches to persist through midday in some areas.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and local authorities for the latest on road conditions and potential delays.
