Scranton, PA – A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for parts of northeastern and northwestern Pennsylvania, with up to 12 inches of snow possible in higher elevations from Thursday afternoon through Friday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Binghamton, NY, and Mount Holly, NJ, the affected areas include Lackawanna, Luzerne, Southern Wayne, Wyoming, Carbon, and Monroe Counties. The heaviest snowfall is expected in higher elevations, particularly in areas above 1,500 feet, while valleys will see significantly lower accumulations.

Travel is expected to be difficult during the storm, especially for the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes. Strong winds and the weight of wet snow could bring down tree limbs and power lines, causing scattered outages.

Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for potential power outages by assembling a winter storm kit with essentials like blankets, water, flashlights, and a first aid kit. Drivers are urged to proceed with extreme caution and report downed lines to local authorities.
