GAYLORD, Mich. – Northern Michigan will see clear skies tonight, but patchy fog and isolated frost could form in low-lying areas as temperatures dip into the mid-30s in spots such as the Au Sable River valley. Overnight lows will range from 35 to 47 degrees across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, inland valleys remain most at risk for frost, especially in interior counties where calm winds and clear skies could allow for rapid cooling. Motorists should watch for reduced visibility in patchy fog, particularly on rural roads during the early morning commute.
Scattered showers will sweep across the Great Lakes region Wednesday afternoon into the evening, with showers moving from north to south across northern Michigan. The system lingers into Thursday morning before skies clear and drier conditions take hold.
By Friday, sunshine returns with highs in the mid-60s to lower 70s. The weekend outlook calls for temperatures rebounding to near normal, with highs well into the 60s and 70s under mostly sunny skies.
Residents are advised to protect sensitive plants from frost tonight and allow extra travel time Wednesday with rain showers moving through.
