Chicago, IL – A University Park woman has been arrested in connection with a fatal crash on the Dan Ryan Expressway that left one person dead and others injured.

According to Illinois State Police, 26-year-old Tamia D. Rios was taken into custody on April 7, 2025, on charges of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol Involving Death and Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol Causing Great Bodily Harm. The charges stem from a crash that occurred on April 6, 2025, on Interstate 94 southbound near 87th Street in Chicago.

Illinois State Police said that Rios, driving a 2021 Buick, struck a stalled semi-truck and the vehicle it was towing, which was blocking the roadway. The passenger in Rios’s vehicle, 23-year-old Carlos Rios of Ithaca, NY, was pronounced dead shortly after the crash at a local hospital. Two other passengers and the driver of the stalled vehicle were transported to area hospitals with injuries.

On April 7, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office filed charges against Rios, and she was arrested. Rios is currently being held pending her first court appearance.

The charges are not evidence of guilt, and Rios is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
