University Park, Illinois – Crete Monee Middle School organizers are inviting residents to join a community cleanup at Town Center on Saturday, March 14.

According to event organizers from the school’s Southland Angels initiative, the volunteer cleanup will run from noon to 2 p.m. at 90 Town Center in University Park. Participants will help remove litter and clean nearby public areas as part of a community improvement effort.

Organizers said gloves, garbage pickers and bags will be provided for volunteers during the event. Lunch will also be offered to participants immediately following the cleanup.

The effort includes participation from several school and community groups, including the Crete Monee Middle School sports teams, Parent-Teacher Organization, Student Council, National Junior Honor Society, Faith Grand Chapter, United Grand Chapter, UP Lions, and Angels Basketball.

Village officials are also supporting the initiative. The flyer lists Mayor Joseph E. Roudez III, Trustees Karen L. Lewis, Gina L. Williams, and Sonia Bell-Jenkins, along with Village Manager Elizabeth Scott and Commissioners Roosevelt Martin and Virnita Martin, as sponsors of the event.

Organizers note that all minors must be accompanied by an adult, and waivers will be completed upon arrival.

The cleanup aims to encourage residents to work together to maintain shared spaces and strengthen community connections in University Park.

Community service events like this can also provide volunteer hours and leadership opportunities for students and young residents involved in school organizations.

Residents interested in participating can arrive directly at Town Center shortly before noon on March 14.
