Chicago, IL – A powerful Arctic blast is set to bring record-breaking cold temperatures, dangerous wind chills, and the potential for heavy snow across the Central U.S. next week. The National Weather Service warns that subzero temperatures could extend as far south as Texas and the Gulf Coast.
According to the NOAA Weather Prediction Center, temperatures will plummet beginning Monday night, with extreme wind chills between -30°F and -50°F in the Northern Plains. Frostbite could occur in minutes, making travel and outdoor exposure hazardous. The bitter cold is expected to last through Friday, February 21.
In addition to the cold, forecasters predict a developing winter storm with moderate to heavy snowfall from the Central Plains to the Northeast. While exact snow totals remain uncertain, areas in the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys should prepare for potential disruptions.
Residents are urged to monitor forecasts, dress in layers, and limit outdoor exposure to prevent frostbite. Travelers should check for road closures and delays due to ice and snow. Updates will continue as the storm track becomes clearer.
