Atlanta, GA – Parents across the Southern United States are being urged to check their pantries after Sprout Organics issued a recall of one lot of its Sweet Potato Apple and Spinach baby food pouches due to possible lead contamination.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the voluntary recall was announced on Monday, September 16, 2025. The affected products, sold in Walgreens and some independent stores in the South region, may contain “elevated levels of lead.”

The recall applies specifically to 3.5-ounce pouches with lot code 4212 and an expiration date of October 29, 2025. The company advises consumers to return the product to their local store for a full refund.

Exposure to lead, even at low levels, can pose health risks, especially for children. “Lead exposure is more likely with acute exposure to higher levels or chronic exposure to lower levels,” the FDA warned. Prolonged exposure can impact development, learning, and weight.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall, and Sprout Organics emphasized that no other products are affected. The issue was identified during routine sampling.

Consumers with questions can contact Sprout Organics at 510-833-6089 or by email at info@sproutorganics.com.
