Wakefield, VA — Central and eastern Virginia will see two opportunities for light snow this weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Wakefield. While neither system is expected to produce significant accumulation, both could briefly affect travel—especially during the morning hours.
A fast-moving clipper system today (Friday) is spreading areas of light snow across the Piedmont and western portions of the region. Forecasters expect accumulations of less than one inch, with many locations seeing only a dusting. The best chance for coating-level snow stretches from Farmville and Lawrenceville northeast toward Ashland and Louisa. Snow is expected to taper off early this afternoon as drier air moves in.
Saturday will be dry and relatively mild, providing a break between systems.
Another chance for snow arrives Sunday morning into the afternoon as a strong cold front pushes through the Mid-Atlantic. This second system may bring scattered snow showers or periods of light, steady snow across a broader area—including Richmond, Petersburg, Williamsburg, Emporia, and parts of Hampton Roads. Like today’s event, accumulation will generally stay below one inch, though brief heavier bursts could temporarily reduce visibility.
Forecasters emphasize that surface temperatures will hover near freezing during both events, meaning slick spots could develop early in the day—particularly on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.
