Duluth, MN – The National Weather Service in Duluth reports that two quick-hitting Alberta clipper systems will impact the Northland from Monday afternoon through early Wednesday, bringing multiple rounds of light to moderate snow, gusty winds, and hazardous travel conditions.

🌨️ First Clipper: Monday Afternoon Through Early Tuesday

The first system will move in from the northwest between 2 PM and 4 PM Monday, spreading snow southeastward through the evening.

  • Snow Amounts:
    • 1–3 inches north of U.S. Highway 2, including Duluth and the Iron Range.
    • Dusting to 2 inches south of U.S. 2.
    • Localized 3–5 inches possible from Schroeder to Grand Portage, especially in higher terrain.
  • Winds: South gusts 20–25 mph with visibility dropping below 1 mile at times.
  • Impacts: Slippery roads, reduced visibility, and slick travel for the Monday evening commute.

Forecaster confidence in timing and coverage is 80%, though dry air could reduce totals farther inland from Lake Superior.

🌨️ Second Clipper: Tuesday Afternoon Through Wednesday Morning

A second, stronger clipper will arrive Tuesday afternoon, continuing through early Wednesday morning.

  • Snow Amounts:
    • 2–4 inches for much of the region south of U.S. 2.
    • A narrow band of 6-inch totals may develop from Pine River to Brainerd to Hinckley and into northwest Wisconsin near Ladysmith, with a sharp north–south snowfall gradient expected.
  • Timing:
    • Snow begins 12 PM Tuesday, peaks late afternoon through midnight, and tapers by 6 AM Wednesday.
  • Impacts:
    • Reduced visibility, snow-covered roads, and difficult travel for the Tuesday evening commute.

Confidence in timing is 80%, while confidence in exact amounts is around 60% due to potential shifts in storm track.
