Naperville, IL – Two drivers were arrested late Saturday night after police say they were caught traveling more than double the posted speed limit on Route 59.

According to the Naperville Police Department, the first incident happened at about 10:30 p.m. when officers stopped an 18-year-old male who was allegedly driving 132 mph in a 45-mph zone on southbound Route 59 near English Rows Avenue.

Roughly 45 minutes later, another officer stopped a 21-year-old male allegedly driving 110 mph in the same 45-mph zone on northbound Route 59 near Beebe Drive. Police said both drivers were taken into custody. One faces charges of speeding more than 35 mph over the limit and street racing, while the second is charged with speeding 35+ mph over the limit and reckless driving. Authorities noted a second vehicle may have been involved in one of the incidents and is under investigation.

Police emphasized that while not every traffic stop involves this level of reckless driving, officers continue to encounter unsafe behavior on local roadways. The department reminded drivers that enforcement efforts will remain active to help reduce dangerous driving, but motorists also share responsibility for roadway safety.

Officials urged drivers to slow down, remain sober behind the wheel, avoid distractions, obey traffic signals, and talk to younger drivers about safe driving practices.
