Baltimore County, MD – Detectives are investigating a fatal overnight crash that claimed the lives of two young men early Sunday in Middle River, according to the Baltimore County Police Department.
At approximately 12:50 a.m., officers responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 2200 block of Holly Neck Road, ZIP code 21221. Investigators said a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling westbound when it left the roadway and struck at least one tree.
According to police, the driver, identified as 18-year-old Austin Lautenschlager, and the rear passenger, 19-year-old David Santos III, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet determined what caused the vehicle to veer off the road.
Detectives from the department’s Crash Team are continuing to investigate the incident. Police have not released additional details regarding possible contributing factors such as speed, weather, or impairment.
Residents in the area reported seeing emergency crews block the roadway for several hours overnight as investigators processed the scene.
