Springfield, IL – Nearly 48 hours after a severe storm system battered Illinois, over 60,000 residents remain without power. The storms, which swept through the state on Monday night, brought tornadoes and high winds, leaving significant destruction in their wake.

According to PowerOutage.us, as of 2:48pm Wednesday, ComEd reports that 56,659 customers are still experiencing outages, making it the hardest-hit provider. The storms prompted multiple tornado warnings and caused extensive damage to power lines and infrastructure across north-central Illinois.

Ameren is reporting over 8,000 without power Wednesday afternoon while MidAmerican Energy Company says 256 customers are still without power. Utility crews are working tirelessly to restore service, but the scale of the damage is presenting considerable challenges.

Authorities emphasize the importance of patience and safety during this period. According to local officials, the damage includes downed trees, damaged homes, and disrupted transportation routes. Recovery efforts are ongoing, with utility companies prioritizing the most severely affected areas.
