Minneapolis, MN – The National Weather Service in Twin Cities/Chanhassen has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of central and eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin, in effect Tuesday afternoon through early Wednesday morning, as a strong clipper system brings snow, gusty winds, and icy travel to the region.
Snow is expected to begin Tuesday afternoon in central Minnesota, spreading into the Twin Cities and western Wisconsin by evening. Accumulations between 2 and 6 inches are possible, with the heaviest snow likely along and north of Interstate 94. Some areas could also see a light glaze of ice or freezing drizzle, especially in the metro and southern counties.
Winds will strengthen overnight, with gusts of 40 to 50 mph, leading to blowing snow and reduced visibility, particularly in open areas and along rural roads. The Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes are expected to be slippery and slow, with patchy whiteout conditions possible.
Counties under the advisory include Hennepin, Ramsey, Wright, Stearns, McLeod, Dakota, and Washington in Minnesota, along with Eau Claire, Dunn, and St. Croix in Wisconsin.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and check updated road conditions via 511mn.org or 511wi.gov before heading out.
