Twin Cities, MN – The National Weather Service in Chanhassen has expanded a Winter Storm Warning for most of central Minnesota and parts of western Wisconsin as a powerful storm brings heavy snow, strong winds, and hazardous travel through Wednesday morning.

Forecasters say rain will transition to snow by late Tuesday afternoon, becoming all snow by 6–7 p.m., with accumulations of 4–8 inches possible. Some areas from St. Cloud to Little Falls could see up to 10–12 inches, depending on the storm’s track.

Wind gusts of 40–45 MPH will create blowing and drifting snow, significantly reducing visibility and making travel difficult or even impossible at times. The NWS warns of hazardous overnight driving, particularly along I-35, I-94, and U.S. Highway 10.

Temperatures will plunge below freezing Tuesday evening, worsening icy conditions into Wednesday morning. Officials urge residents to delay nonessential travel and prepare for possible delays or closures.
