Twin Cities, MN – A dramatic weather shift is set to impact Minnesota beginning Friday, with temperatures ranging from the mid-40s in the north to mid-80s in the south, followed by thunderstorms and a weekend snow risk.
According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, a warm front will stall across the state Friday, creating a temperature gradient of over 40 degrees from north to south. While southern areas such as Mankato, Fairmont, and Marshall could see highs in the mid-80s, northern cities like Hinckley and Hayward are expected to remain in the 40s.
The front will also bring a chance of isolated strong to severe thunderstorms by Friday evening. Storms are possible both early and late in the day, especially along the temperature divide.
Saturday brings another shift, as widespread rain transitions to snow across the region. Accumulations may become slushy by Saturday night, particularly in central and northern Minnesota. Highs will drop to the mid-30s to low 40s, with lows in the 20s.
Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, especially during travel. Prepare for quickly changing road conditions, and monitor local alerts for storm and snowfall updates.
