Minneapolis, Minn. – Clear skies will dominate the Twin Cities today as smoke drifts out of the region, but conditions will change quickly midweek when another cold front brings both smoke and storms.

According to the National Weather Service, smoke will return Wednesday, with the first round of showers and thunderstorms developing Wednesday night. Storm chances will continue daily through early next week, raising the potential for heavy rain, lightning, and brief gusty winds across much of Minnesota.

By Thursday, a 40% chance of storms will stretch across the metro and into surrounding counties, possibly impacting the morning and evening commute. Friday will bring another storm chance but also the week’s hottest temperatures, with highs pushing into the upper 80s and near 90 in parts of southern Minnesota. Drivers should prepare for reduced visibility during smoky periods and slow down in wet conditions.

Hot and unsettled weather could linger into the weekend, with additional advisories possible if storm coverage increases.
