Minneapolis, Minn. – Minnesota will see a sharp weather change this week as storms and a powerful cold front push across the state, knocking temperatures well below normal by Wednesday. Highs in the Twin Cities could tumble nearly 20 degrees within 24 hours, leaving the region stuck in the low 60s through the end of the week.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, scattered showers will develop this afternoon, with more widespread rain and thunderstorms arriving Tuesday. Areas including Mankato, St. Cloud, and Redwood Falls face the highest storm chances Tuesday afternoon and evening, where probabilities climb above 60%. Winds are expected to increase with the front, adding to travel concerns.

Drivers should plan for wet roads and slower commutes late Tuesday into Wednesday morning, particularly along I-94 and Highway 169 corridors. The sudden cool down will also bring the first taste of fall-like air, with overnight lows dipping into the 40s in northern counties and 50s across southern Minnesota.

The cold pattern will linger into Friday before moderating next weekend. Additional advisories could be issued if rainfall totals rise or if gusty winds bring power outage risks.
