Minneapolis, Minnesota – Scorching heat and severe weather could disrupt travel and daily routines across Minnesota Tuesday as heat indices climb to near 100°F, followed by a risk for damaging storms through the night. Residents across the Twin Cities, St. Cloud, and Rochester should brace for large hail, high winds, and even a possible tornado as a powerful cold front sweeps in after sunset.

According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, a heat advisory covers much of central and southern Minnesota from late morning through Tuesday evening, with “feels like” temperatures peaking at 95 to 100°F between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday. The risk for severe thunderstorms increases Tuesday evening into overnight, especially in areas north of the Twin Cities, including St. Cloud and Brainerd, where damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes are possible.

City crews and emergency managers urge drivers to avoid travel during severe storms and monitor alerts for potential road closures or power outages. Outdoor activities should be limited during the hottest hours; residents are encouraged to hydrate, check on neighbors, and secure outdoor items that could become hazards in strong winds.

Relief arrives Wednesday as storms move out and cooler, drier air settles in. Additional weather advisories may be issued if the storm threat persists into Wednesday morning.
