Minneapolis, Minn. – Minnesota residents should brace for gusty winds and scattered showers tonight, with the strongest impact expected in southern and western parts of the state. Wind gusts could reach 40 mph in some areas, raising concerns for drivers and those with outdoor plans.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, light rain will spread across much of the region Thursday afternoon into the evening, with isolated thunder possible. The combination of wet roads and strong winds could make travel difficult, especially along I-35 from Albert Lea through the Twin Cities and I-90 across southern Minnesota.

Gusts will build through the evening and remain elevated overnight, with the highest risk from Mankato to Redwood Falls and into Willmar. Power lines and unsecured outdoor items may be vulnerable in exposed areas. Forecasters note Friday will remain breezy and cooler, with highs topping out near 60 degrees.

Conditions improve for the weekend as partly cloudy skies Saturday give way to mostly sunny weather Sunday, bringing a stretch of calmer, more comfortable days.

Warnings for strong winds remain in effect tonight, and additional advisories could be issued if storms intensify.
