Minneapolis, Minnesota – Another brutally cold day is settling over Minneapolis, keeping road conditions fragile as temperatures struggle to climb above zero and refreezing remains a concern for drivers throughout the day. While winds are easing compared to earlier, the persistent cold is enough to keep untreated surfaces slick, especially during the morning and evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities office, wind chills are gradually improving this morning as winds diminish, but afternoon highs are still expected to top out between zero and five degrees. Cold temperatures return again tonight with lighter winds, setting the stage for icy patches to redevelop on bridges, ramps, and shaded roadways.

Attention then turns to late Tuesday into Wednesday as a fast-moving clipper system brings the next chance for snow. Forecasters say the best chance for accumulation will be along and south of Interstate 90, though light snow could still impact the broader Twin Cities area. Even minor snowfall could lead to slippery travel given the extremely cold pavement temperatures.

Major routes including I-94, I-35W, and Highway 62 remain vulnerable to refreezing and reduced traction. Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and carry winter safety supplies. Colder air is expected to surge back into the region heading into next weekend, with additional advisories possible as conditions evolve.
