Minneapolis, Minnesota – Strong wind gusts up to 40 mph are already sweeping across southern Minnesota this morning, creating crosswind hazards along I-90 and open rural roads.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, breezy conditions will persist through the afternoon, especially from Mankato to Albert Lea, where gusts could frequently top 35 to 40 mph. While most areas stay dry today, a few light rain showers may develop, mainly south of the Twin Cities.

Cities including Rochester, Fairmont, and Worthington will feel the strongest winds, which could make travel difficult for high-profile vehicles and produce choppy conditions on area lakes. Drivers should keep both hands on the wheel, and boaters are urged to use caution.

Conditions quiet down slightly Thursday with mostly cloudy skies and cooler highs in the 40s to near 50. Sunshine returns Friday with calmer winds before a more active pattern takes hold.

Rain chances increase Saturday, followed by a warmer and more humid air mass Sunday, when highs climb into the upper 60s to mid-70s with thunderstorms possible.

Warnings are not currently in effect, but conditions will continue to be monitored as the weekend system develops.
