Minneapolis, MN – A weak weather system will slide across Minnesota this weekend, bringing a quick shot of slushy snow followed by the coldest air of the season so far.

According to the US National Weather Service Twin Cities, light snow is expected to develop early Saturday morning, mainly across western and southern Minnesota, where up to a half inch of accumulation is possible. Brief bursts of heavier snow could reduce visibility along the I-90 corridor, particularly around dawn.

Behind the system, much colder air will rush in for the second half of the weekend. Sunday morning wind chills could fall into the single digits, with actual temperatures hovering in the low 30s. Strong northwest winds will also make outdoor conditions feel harsh, with gusts near 30 mph at times Saturday and Sunday.

Drivers should be alert for slick spots during early morning commutes Saturday, especially on bridges and overpasses. While no major storm impacts are expected, forecasters say this will mark a clear shift toward more winter-like conditions statewide.

Temperatures are expected to slowly moderate by midweek but remain below normal for several days.
