MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Drivers in the Twin Cities encountered dense fog Tuesday morning, with visibility expected to improve between 9 and 10 a.m., giving way to partly cloudy skies and highs in the low to mid-80s.

According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, patchy fog will remain a factor for early mornings through Thursday, followed by mostly sunny afternoons. Overnight lows will hover in the low to mid-60s, keeping conditions seasonable for mid-August.

The next significant weather shift comes late Thursday into Friday morning, when a weak system could bring showers and isolated storms to the metro and surrounding counties. While rainfall totals are not expected to be high, brief downpours and lightning could impact early commutes.

Travelers should allow extra time in the mornings as fog reduces visibility on highways, including I-35 and I-94. Officials advise keeping headlights on low beam and maintaining safe distance in traffic. By the end of the week, residents should be prepared for possible wet roads during Friday’s morning rush.

Foggy mornings are expected to continue until Thursday, with the chance of showers and storms developing late Thursday night and lingering into Friday morning.
