Minneapolis–St. Paul, MN – Winter will make a brief but sharp appearance this weekend as light snow, falling temperatures, and biting winds move across southern Minnesota, according to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities.

A dusting of snow is likely Saturday morning, mainly across far western and southern Minnesota. While accumulations will remain minor, forecasters warn that temperatures will drop quickly behind the system Saturday night, setting up the coldest air of the season so far.

By early Sunday, lows will fall into the teens with wind chills ranging from 0° to 10°F. The day will stay cold and blustery, with highs only in the mid-20s to low 30s and northwest winds making it feel significantly colder.

The NWS advises residents to bundle up and prepare for a wintry weekend, especially if heading outdoors Sunday morning. Roads may briefly become slick in areas that receive early snow.

Warmer, more seasonal temperatures are expected to return by early next week.
