Minneapolis, MN – Scattered thunderstorms could bring damaging winds and hail to parts of Minnesota late Monday, with the strongest storms expected between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. across the central and western regions. The National Weather Service warns that a few storms may turn severe as they move eastward into the evening hours.

According to the US National Weather Service Twin Cities, storm chances increase sharply in cities like Willmar, Redwood Falls, and Mankato by late afternoon. The Twin Cities metro area, including Minneapolis and St. Paul, is likely to see storm activity peaking between 7 p.m. and midnight, with up to a 55% chance of precipitation during that window.

Winds could gust up to 50 mph in some storms, and quarter-sized hail is possible, especially in western Minnesota. Commuters should avoid travel during the evening rush if possible and secure outdoor items. Lightning risk will also increase with any developing storm clusters.

After the storms clear overnight, Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be mostly sunny with highs in the low 80s. Another round of widespread rain is possible overnight Thursday into Friday.
