Minneapolis, MN – The National Weather Service Twin Cities is warning of travel impacts across southern Minnesota today as another round of snow moves through the region. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through tonight for areas along and south of Interstate 90, where the heaviest accumulation is expected.
Forecasters say snowfall totals of 3 to 5 inches are likely across the advisory zone, with localized areas up to 6 inches possible in far southern Minnesota, especially near Worthington, Fairmont, and Albert Lea.
North of the Minnesota River, lighter snow is forecast with 1 to 3 inches possible, tapering off toward the Twin Cities and central Minnesota. The NWS notes that snow will continue through the evening before ending overnight.
Drivers should expect snow-covered roads and reduced visibility, particularly on major routes such as I-90 and U.S. Highway 71. Travel is expected to be slow and potentially hazardous during the afternoon and evening hours.
“This system will primarily impact southern Minnesota, with the heaviest snow falling south of I-90,” the NWS said early Saturday morning. “Use caution if traveling and allow extra time for your commute.”
