Eau Claire, WI – Steady overnight snowfall is creating slippery travel conditions across western Wisconsin Wednesday morning, especially along major commuter routes connecting the Twin Cities and the Chippewa Valley.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. CDT Wednesday for much of western Wisconsin, including Eau Claire, Chippewa, Dunn, Barron, Polk, Rusk, and St. Croix counties.

Cities impacted include Eau Claire, Hudson, Menomonie, Chippewa Falls, Rice Lake, Ladysmith, and Osceola. Forecasters expect 2 to 4 inches of snow through late morning, with the heaviest accumulation occurring overnight into the early commute.

Snowfall is occurring along several major corridors including Interstate 94, Interstate 35, and U.S. Highways 10, 53, 63, and 8, where drivers may encounter snow-covered pavement and reduced visibility during bursts of heavier snow.

Across eastern Minnesota, including communities north of the Twin Cities such as Blaine, Cambridge, Princeton, and Elk River, similar snowfall totals are expected through mid-morning before conditions gradually improve.

Transportation officials advise motorists to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time, particularly during the Wednesday morning commute. Snowfall should taper later in the day, though slick spots may linger into the afternoon.
