Minneapolis, Minnesota – Scattered showers and a break from the heat will offer temporary relief across western and central Minnesota today, but a surge of summer heat and humidity is on track to return by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, light rain is possible throughout Monday across areas like Willmar, Alexandria, and Marshall, with partly sunny skies expected elsewhere. Highs will range from 75 to 80 degrees. Wildfire smoke drifting in from Canada continues to impact air quality across western Wisconsin, especially near Eau Claire and La Crosse.

By Tuesday, temperatures begin climbing again, reaching the upper 80s before spiking into the 90s on Wednesday and Thursday. Storm chances rise again midweek, particularly for central and southern Minnesota. High humidity levels will increase heat index values, making conditions potentially dangerous for vulnerable groups.

Residents are urged to limit time outdoors during poor air quality alerts and prepare now for midweek heat. Stay hydrated, check on neighbors, and avoid strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours.

Additional advisories are likely by Wednesday as conditions worsen. Shower chances fade temporarily after today but could return with Thursday’s storm threat.
