MINNEAPOLIS–ST. PAUL, Minn. – A dramatic fall shift is on the way for the Twin Cities, with warm weekend sunshine giving way to rain and a sharp temperature plunge early next week. Commuters along I-94 and I-35 should prepare for slick roads Monday and gusty winds Tuesday as cooler air sweeps in behind a strong front.
According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, scattered showers will develop Monday afternoon with highs near 60°F. Winds will quickly shift northwest, gusting up to 35 mph Tuesday and driving temperatures into the upper 40s. The breezy change will mark one of the first true “fall feel” days of the season across southern Minnesota.
Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor decorations and protect any tender plants still outside before the chill sets in. Fire pits, leaf cleanup, and pumpkin patch visits will be best planned for Sunday, when sunshine and 50s prevail. The brisk, dry air Tuesday into midweek will also help clear skies for leaf-viewing drives and early Halloween prep.
The cold air won’t last long — temperatures begin to rebound by Thursday with highs returning to the 60s. Still, the early-week winds and chill will serve as a reminder that winter’s approach is just around the corner.
