Minneapolis, MN – Another northern lights show is expected to light up Minnesota skies tonight, as a powerful geomagnetic storm combines with clear conditions ahead of a brief November warm-up.

According to the US National Weather Service Twin Cities and the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, the ongoing G4 (Severe) geomagnetic storm continues to create vivid aurora sightings across the Midwest and Great Lakes. Skies over much of Minnesota are forecast to remain mostly clear overnight, giving residents an excellent chance to see the lights once again.

The best viewing time will be between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m., especially away from city lights in rural areas north and west of the Twin Cities. Viewers may spot bands of green, red, or purple glowing low on the northern horizon.

Beyond tonight’s aurora display, mild weather will continue through Friday, with highs reaching the upper 60s to near 70° in western Minnesota. A cold front Saturday will bring a small chance of rain and falling temperatures, followed by seasonable 40s to end the weekend.

Residents are encouraged to bundle up, grab their cameras, and enjoy what could be one of the last clear nights for aurora viewing before colder weather returns.
