Twin Cities, Minnesota – Another round of light snow combined with strong winds is expected to create blowing snow and difficult travel conditions across western and southern Minnesota today, followed by dangerously cold wind chills tonight into Monday, according to the National Weather Service Twin Cities/Chanhassen.

In a social media update posted early Sunday, the National Weather Service said light snow has begun in western Minnesota and will continue progressing eastward during the day. Snow accumulations of roughly 0.5 to 2 inches are expected across much of southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

Forecasters warn that northwest winds gusting between 35 and 45 mph will increase the risk of blowing and drifting snow, particularly in rural and open areas. These conditions may lead to reduced visibility and hazardous travel, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.

A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect Sunday night through Monday as Arctic air moves into the region. Wind chills are expected to range between 25 below and 35 below zero, with the coldest conditions overnight into Monday morning. Graphics shared by the National Weather Service show the most severe wind chills occurring west of the Twin Cities.

Officials urge residents to limit time outdoors, dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and bring pets indoors. Drivers are encouraged to check road conditions, allow extra travel time, and be prepared for rapidly changing visibility due to blowing snow.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve Monday as winds slowly decrease.
