Minneapolis, Minnesota – Breezy and cool conditions are holding across Minnesota today, but a rapid warmup and dangerous fire conditions will develop within the next 24 hours.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, highs Friday will remain between 31 and 41 degrees with gusty winds and decreasing clouds. Morning lows dropped into the teens and 20s, creating a chilly start across Minneapolis, St. Paul, and surrounding communities.

The bigger concern arrives Saturday. Temperatures will surge into the upper 40s to low 60s statewide, while strong southwesterly winds increase with gusts between 30 and 45 mph. This combination of warm temperatures, low humidity, and wind will create potentially dangerous fire weather conditions, especially in western Minnesota.

Communities along I-94 and I-35 should prepare for difficult travel for high-profile vehicles and rapidly changing outdoor conditions.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, secure loose items, and remain cautious with any activity that could create sparks.

Conditions improve slightly Sunday as winds ease, though warm temperatures continue.

Fire weather concerns will peak Saturday afternoon, with additional advisories possible if conditions intensify.
