Minneapolis, Minnesota – Spotty showers could slow the Thursday afternoon commute before a rapid warmup sets the stage for multiple rounds of weekend storms across the Twin Cities.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, light rain will move through Thursday with temperatures holding in the 40s to near 50 degrees. Conditions improve Friday, bringing sunshine and highs climbing into the 50s, making it the most favorable outdoor day before storms return.

By Saturday afternoon, thunderstorms are expected to develop, especially after 3 p.m., with highs reaching the upper 50s to near 60 degrees. The system strengthens into Sunday, when temperatures surge into the 70s to near 80 degrees across much of Minnesota.

Forecasters warn that multiple rounds of showers and storms could bring locally heavy rainfall, particularly across western Wisconsin where the greatest impacts are expected. Roads including I-94 and I-35 could see reduced visibility and ponding during heavier downpours.

Residents should prepare for changing conditions, secure outdoor items, and monitor alerts through the weekend as additional advisories may be issued.
