Minneapolis, Minnesota – Severe thunderstorms and dangerous heat are expected to impact much of Minnesota through Wednesday night, threatening travel, utilities, and outdoor plans from the Twin Cities to St. Cloud and beyond.

According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, rounds of strong storms with damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rain are possible starting Tuesday afternoon and lasting into late Wednesday. Affected regions include the greater Minneapolis area, St. Cloud, and key travel corridors along I-94 and I-35. A heat advisory is also in effect, with heat indices surging between 95 and 105°F, particularly on Tuesday.

Tuesday brings a Level 2 severe risk for central and eastern Minnesota, including Hennepin, Ramsey, and Stearns counties. The threat shifts eastward Wednesday, with the risk zone expanding to Duluth and parts of western Wisconsin. Power outages and localized flooding are possible, especially in areas hit by repeated downpours.

Residents should stay alert for warnings and have multiple ways to receive alerts, especially if traveling or spending time outdoors. Avoid non-essential travel during severe weather, charge devices in advance, and ensure access to air conditioning or cooling centers during peak heat.

Severe weather risks and advisories remain in effect through Wednesday evening, with further updates possible as new storms develop.
