Minneapolis–St. Paul, Minnesota – A cold front moving through the Twin Cities tonight will usher in much colder and breezy conditions, with light snow and travel impacts expected later this week.
According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, temperatures will fall sharply tonight, with overnight lows between 5 and 15 degrees, followed by breezy conditions continuing through the weekend. Wednesday is expected to remain cold and breezy, with highs ranging from 12 to 22 degrees under mostly sunny skies.
Snow chances increase Thursday and Friday, with light snow likely across much of central and southern Minnesota. Forecasters say accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are possible through Friday, which could lead to minor travel impacts, including slick roads, reduced visibility, and areas of blowing snow due to continued breezy conditions.
On Thursday, snow is expected to develop mainly during the afternoon and evening, with highs between 25 and 35 degrees. Snow may linger into Friday, when temperatures are forecast to range from 25 to 30 degrees, before gradually tapering off.
The Weather Service noted that colder air will remain locked in place through mid-January and toward the end of the month, signaling an extended stretch of below-normal temperatures across the region.
Communities across the Twin Cities metro, including Minneapolis, St. Paul, Bloomington, Maple Grove, Eagan, and surrounding areas, should prepare for changing road conditions late this week and continued cold weather.
No winter weather advisories were issued with this update, but residents are encouraged to monitor forecasts closely as snowfall timing and impacts become clearer.
