MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Heat and humidity will build across Minnesota Friday, setting the stage for several rounds of thunderstorms through early next week. The National Weather Service warns some storms could be strong to severe, especially in western Wisconsin and southern Minnesota, with heavy rainfall possible.

According to the NWS Twin Cities office, storm chances begin Friday afternoon, with the strongest activity expected in western Wisconsin. Additional rounds are likely Saturday and Sunday, especially south of Interstate 94, where temperatures could again push near 90 degrees. By Monday, showers will shift from west to east, gradually tapering off.

Heavy rain may cause localized flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and along small streams. Lightning and strong wind gusts are possible in stronger storms. Residents are urged to monitor forecasts, secure outdoor items, and be ready to move indoors quickly if warnings are issued.

This unsettled pattern is tied to a stalled frontal boundary over the Upper Midwest, keeping the region locked in a storm-friendly setup. More alerts are possible as each wave develops.

Five-Day Forecast for Minneapolis, MN:

  • Friday: Scattered storms late, strongest in western WI, high 85–90°F.
  • Saturday: Storms early and again late, high 80–90°F.
  • Sunday: Scattered storms, high 75–85°F.
  • Monday: Scattered showers ending west to east, high 75–85°F.
  • Tuesday: Partly sunny, slight chance of showers, high near 80°F.
