MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – A chilly start to the weekend is settling over Minnesota, with overnight lows dropping into the upper 30s to low 40s across much of the state. Drivers and early risers in the Twin Cities may even see isolated showers Friday evening before skies clear out.
According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, cool Canadian air is keeping temperatures well below seasonal norms, with highs only reaching the low to mid-60s Saturday and Sunday. Typical early September highs hover closer to the mid-70s.
The cooler weather may have Minnesotans reaching for jackets at Saturday morning farmers markets or Friday night football games. Northern suburbs and outlying communities could dip even colder, raising concerns for patchy frost in rural low-lying areas.
Conditions begin to improve Monday as sunshine helps boost highs back into the mid-70s. Rain chances increase again late Monday into Tuesday, though temperatures are expected to remain near normal through midweek.
Residents are urged to dress in layers and keep an eye on changing evening conditions if traveling this weekend. Weather service officials say additional advisories may be issued as showers return early next week.
