Minneapolis, MN — A late-season winter storm is bringing widespread snow and icy conditions to much of Minnesota, with significant impacts expected through Wednesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, the second phase of a spring storm is underway and will continue into early Thursday, producing up to 8 inches of wet, slushy snow in west-central to central Minnesota. Areas including Lac Qui Parle and Yellow Medicine counties are forecast to see the heaviest snowfall totals. Snow rates will taper sharply toward southern Minnesota, where rain is expected to mix in due to warmer air.

The storm has prompted a Winter Storm Warning for Pope and Stevens counties, while Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for several surrounding counties until 1 a.m. Thursday. Mixed precipitation may include up to a tenth of an inch of ice in western areas, particularly where sleet and freezing rain coincide.

Residents are urged to use caution on roads as slushy conditions will reduce traction and visibility. Those in the Morris to Alexandria stretch and northern Todd and Morrison counties should prepare for slower commutes and potential school disruptions.

Travelers are advised to monitor updates and delay non-essential trips through Wednesday night.
