Twin Cities, MN – The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities reports that two rounds of snow are expected to affect the region through Saturday night, creating potential travel impacts.
The first round of light snow will move across central and southern Minnesota Friday morning, spreading east throughout the day. While accumulations will be on the lighter side — generally up to 1 inch — timing could cause slippery roads during the morning and afternoon commutes.
A second round of snow is expected to develop late Saturday afternoon into Saturday night, bringing heavier accumulations to southern Minnesota. Forecast models show the highest potential for plowable snow (4 inches or more) along and south of Interstate 90, including areas near Worthington, Fairmont, and Albert Lea.
Road conditions may deteriorate quickly as snow rates increase, and reduced visibility will make for hazardous driving Saturday evening and overnight.
Residents are urged to monitor forecasts and allow extra travel time through the weekend.
